Branching Paths Workshop 2 -- Electric App boogaloo

Mentioned this workshop in the release thread but starting this topic for more long term thoughts. Both to hold space for those attending workshops and leave space for the community to drop ideas if they can’t or didn’t attend.

Thursday we held a workshop based off the branching paths document. Initially a strategy primer doc – built for focusing all our efforts cross workstream on a single goal-- we have morphed this into a bottoms up collaborative exploration of the paths before the DAO.

Why? So we can do one of two things:

  1. go full hog on one supreme vision for a year
  2. Execute smaller iterative bets in parallel on a determined builder cycle.

Workshop one was about building a more seamless future, what table stakes it would require, and what baggage we should shed.

The next workshop: We’re exploring mini apps.

Imagine building an ai agent enabled portfolio manager and launching pie-chart.shapeshift.com or lending.shapeshift.com as an aggregator and manager of lending only.

but

no hdwallet, no chain-adapters, no blockbook and persisted Tx history bloat, no sends <>receives nada. Nothing about this architecture is blocking a new thing from launch. The idea is starting from a completely clean slate.

We’ll structure this meeting with the following agenda:

1. Alignment Check & Icebreaker (5 min)

  • Goal-setting: Reminder this is workshop two, there might be a final one for sequencing all the best ideas into a cogent 6 month roadmap though that will be boring. Or, product might just do that.
  • Overview: Today is about break out rooms and pitching. Use the piles and follow your team lead.
  • Icebreaker: come and find out the surprise

2. Rapid-Fire Breakouts (30 min)

  • Form small groups (~5 people each) and use a box in the figjam to focus on one app idea for the theme. Each group will quickly discuss and come up with:
    • The problem.
      • What is the problem you’re going to tackle?
    • Market
      • What is the opportunity size, some user personas, some good UX you’ve seen for this idea?
    • How ShapeShift’s could make this happen ?
      • domain name, biz partners, first customers, hype etc.
      • what is SS’s edge to building this vs some other team?
    • 1-2 key advantages/solutions of this app.
    • 1-2 big features/functionality that make it a great experience.
    • 1-2 biggest challenges or risks to anything therein.
  • Keep this high-level, focusing on fast, impactful discussion. Assign someone in each group to be the pitcher who presents back to the group.

3. Pitching (15 mins)

  • Each team has a lead who will pitch the idea to everyone on the call.
    • Structured as a 2-3 min walkthrough of key features, value, market, and plan. This should be punchy and a whole lot of fun.
  • Pitches + group Q&A 2 mins per pitch.

4. Summary box & next steps (5 min)

  • Bring each idea down to a final box and then let people pitch.
  • Giving ideas 24 hours to breathe, we’ll vote on the forum using anon polling (unless i can’t add extra weight per user in which case figma can work).
