2026 July- Dec Moderation Workstream Renewal

Summary**

The Community Moderation Workstream is primarily responsible to support the community and to maintain the integrity of all ShapeShift various platforms such as Discord, The Forum, Notion, snapshot, telegram and any/all others. Future platforms that the community chooses to implement also to be included. This workstream is used daily to ensure the smooth operation of the ShapeShift DAO.

This proposal is to renew the Moderation Workstream, re-elect Giantkin as leader and fund the workstream through the end of June 2026.

Total Ask is $3372/month. -USDC ask is $872 (expensed) (could make payouts based on due times? as i dont know the amount short now. -FOX ask is $2500/month.

Former USDC monthly is $5872 (depending on Fox choice) some of which is for licenses/botspends/forum any unused per term, , roll over to next Term (stays in Moderation subtreasury until dissolved, bountied, or too large - then revert to Treasury/Colony-root.

Break Down of $ ASK (per month): $2500 (usdc value ALL in Fox) for Payout. Bonus locked as desired, but minimum 6months.(if available) Likely keep at 18m.

Moderation supports all workstreams and all users within each of the platforms it moderates. As we bring more members into the various platforms, moderators act as so much more than bot managers and spam blockers. Not only do the moderators set up the verification process, they are the point of contact for members having issues with the verification process. Our team of moderators clears the path for new members, new contributors and new supporters , with the main goal of protecting them.

Motivation

The mission of this workstream is simple: to help people. Moderation is the workstream you never knew you needed, but couldn’t live without. Moderation is here to support the community. This workstream strives to create a space that fosters security, growth and innovation.

Our team of trustworthy, confident and enthusiastic moderator(s) allows for decentralization of community moderation. This may address the point of preventing accusations of vested interest, since only elected mods have the power to preserve and maintain the DAO culture.

As the workstream leader, I want to make the user feel like they are able to relax. Users are most likely talking from their home space, home usually means they feel safe. I want to keep that feeling in our group.

Specification

Moderators take on wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

Organize user flow via roles, channels and bots

Monitor Sesh & Discord (and oversee others use)

Provide protection from scammers

Warn abusers (strike system established by Giantkin)

Providing basic Discord oriented support (how to use discord in a general sense)

Help maintain and update server images such as avatars, stickers, emojis, etc.

Provide security support (live when possible) for meetings and community events

Drive users to the proper channels

Continually monitoring channels, and other server banlists for potential spam/scammers and adding them into a banlist

Taking part in Support/Ops triage process by shuttling members requesting support to the proper channels, connecting with self help resources, #support,chatwoot, etc as appropriate

Appropriate use of Admin Power by Moderation Workstream Leader in all things

Work with Admins/Workstream Leaders to facilitate bots/webhooks/roles/channels/categories -servers/platforms etc

Enforce the Current Code of Conduct to the best of ability, with positive intent.

What are the goals of this workstream?

Provide moderation coverage to ShapeShift DAO’s community channels, with the hopeful desired goal to provide more coverage

Proactively ban 90% of scammers/bots that try to sneak into ShapeShift discord/socials

The Moderation Workstream is successful when you don’t notice that it’s there.

Other items not included but taken on The Monthly Foxpayout for contributors is no longer needed to be done! : -update the fox price on a set schedule/method. with DFC members. for cross checking

Forum Payment is now under Moderation.

audio record primary meetings - office hours(as able)

Colony overseer(closed) MS setup.

Telegram over watch. (still open, banning bad actors still.)

first thing is the expense aspect.

i think (the colony thing pushing this harder on us now) that we move the expenses into the Supervisor Council. if that existed…crap. its not even posted yet.

Meanwhile, the payout for expenses is just as they come up from the Treasury?

I no longer have the months prior for each month, for the upcoming expenses.

So that has to be thought about.

Thanks for proposing the renewal and thanks for this past term to all the Moderation team <3

I support this proposal and don’t see any error or correction at the moment, should be good for ideation. Hopefully the Workstream can provide the same level of protection and services they have been with this lowered budget ask.

I still think a spreadsheet breakdown of the costs/providers/compensation (including past term for comparison) would be useful for clarity, but that not a blocker for me… just a nice to have if you have the time.

atm its all paid out to me, and then i have opted to retain ppl under my company to help me.

Like most other proposals with budgets, but they generally include a spreadsheet because it’s more readable and comparable… but as I said, not a blocker for me at least :wink:

renewal is up, lowered pay by 50% again, and lowered expenses.

(the yearly is no longer included at all for Forum/snapshot)

but notion is reduced from 250 to 60 a month. (working on removing totaly)

I dont vote on the ideation step, as i am looking for sentiment (and edits)

(it feels wrong to NOT vote on my own proposal tho)
